Midnight In Paris

www.tips-fb.com
I'm not really a fan of Woody Allen. I've never really liked much, if in fact, anything he's done but the trailer for his latest, Midnight In Paris, has me intrigued.

Owen Wilson is a writer struggling for ideas (don't they all?) and while in Paris ditches his girlfriend and her boring family to wander the streets of Paris in search of inspiration and maybe something more?

Miss Marple To Return As ....

www.tips-fb.com
Miss Marple. Sunday evenings as a child sat in front of the TV watching an old biddy bother a posh household trying to solve a murder while drinking tea. I nearly fall asleep every time I think of it.

So what do I think when I hear the news that Miss Marple is being brought back to the big screen? Well, apart from transporting myself back to being an incredibly bored child, I feel that it's a pointless idea.

13 Assassins Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Takashi Miike goes mainstream? Surely not. Well I think he just might have after watching the trailer for his new film 13 Assassins.

It looks grandiose right from the outset with some serious carnage going on and I think this will play right into the hands of western audiences.

Review: Sex And The City 2 (15) ★

www.tips-fb.com
Plot
While wrestling with the pressures of life, love, and work in Manhattan, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte join Samantha for a trip to Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), where Samantha's ex is filming a new movie.

Review
I feel very strongly that Sex and the City 2 is the most awful and unnecessary film ever made.

Amy Adams Is Lois Lane

www.tips-fb.com
Superman now officially has his Lois Lane and she's in the form of Amy Adams. A great bit of casting in this narrators humble opinion.

With Diane Lane and Kevin Costner also locked in as Martha and Jonathan Kent, Adams addition brings another dimension to a cast that's starting to look very impressive.

The Three Musketeers Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
One for all and all for one, muskerhounds are always ready. We all know and love the cartoon but will we embrace and love the new Paul WS Anderson version of the classic Three Musketeers film?

With 3D splattered all over the films first trailer it's not off to the best of starts. It also seems to echo Wicky Wicky Wild Wild West which again is a very bad thing.

Predators Arnold Strong Cameo

www.tips-fb.com
Now before you read any further, if you've not seen Predators then you'll probably want to skip this post. If on the other hand you have and want to find out where Arnold Schwarzeneggers cameo fitted in then read on.

Right, now before I fill you in I need to say that I'm 100% behind this being cut. It's a bad idea and a pretty awful scene in my opinion. But anyway here we go.

Plan 9 From Outer Space Remake

www.tips-fb.com
This is something I really didn't see coming. The notorious Plan 9 from Outer Space remake is on it's way and even better, there's a half decent teaser trailer available!

Yowzers! Ed Wood's cult favourite, nearly always unfairly dubbed the worst film of all time, has been given a update and re-delivered to us a zombie movie for the now.

Rumoured American Reunion Plot Details

www.tips-fb.com
Another leaked plot story, this time concerning the new American Pie addition entitled American Reunion. I already posted that a number of characters have signed on and this kinda ties in with that.

Now remember this is just a rumour and there's nothing concrete surrounding this 'leak' but it does give you an idea of where they might be going with the film so maybe take this with a pinch of salt to begin with.

Wrath Of The Titans Story Details Leaked

www.tips-fb.com
I didn't like the Clash Of The Titans remake. I didn't like any part of it all. It also seems that the people who made it, including the actors, didn't like it either. So here's the sequel. Eh?

Yup, pretty much everyone hated the first film and so they've been given buckets loads of cash to make another. Doesn't make sense to me, a project like Anchorman 2 can't get off the ground, but this can? Rubbish.

Your Highness Red Band Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Everything I've seen of Your Highness so far I've liked. In fact I'd go as far as to say I've loved and this new red band trailer just re-enforces that.

I think Danny McBride is a comic genius, actually I think I also mentioned that in the last post about this film, so I'm doubly sure he is. If you haven't seen any of his stuff check it out immediately, fool.

Mr Popper's Penguins Teaser Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Good lord, I'm really not sure what I've just watched but I didn't like one bit of it. It's a shame but I think I'm slowly starting to hate Jim Carrey.

Maybe its the constant Liar Liar reruns on ITV2 or maybe its the gurning but either way I'm just losing patience in what he delivers these days.

Senna Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
This is one for the F1 fans of the site. A documentary on arguably the greatest Formula One racing driver of all time, Ayrton Senna.

I'm only a casual F1 fan but even I know of the legend of Senna and his untimely death at the San Marino Grand Prix. What I didn't know was how much of a enigmatic character and maverick racing driver he actually was.

Captain America Full Length Trailer (Updated)

www.tips-fb.com
It's a day of trailers today so to start off here's the first full length Captain America trailer. Chris Evans (no, not that one) goes from scrawny to brawny while Tommy Lee Jones narrates via a stirring speech.

My first thoughts on this are that, although visually it looks great, it also seems very formulaic and the same old, same old we've seen before in other comic adaptations.

Review: Inglourious Basterds (18) ★★★★

www.tips-fb.com
Plot
In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis.

Review
Inglourious Basterds was one of those rare films that I needed to go back and re-watch before putting my review down on electronic paper.

LOTR Extended Edition Blu-Ray Release Date

www.tips-fb.com
Hold onto your rings of power because, finally, a release date has been announced for the extended editions of Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Inexcusably they were initially released as the theatrical versions only, this was purely and quite cynically a money making act by the studio which didn't go down well. Had they been talking to George Lucas perhaps?

Total Recall Female Casting Call

www.tips-fb.com
As pre-production of the Total Recall remake chunders forward news has reached the world wide web (yes it's still going strong remarkably) that a short list of names are reading for the females roles.

Names that have been bounded around at the moment include Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger (although Kruger's agent has said that she's opted out of the role but that doesn't mean much really) for the role of Lori, originally played by Sharon Stone.

The Bang Bang Club Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Interesting title and interesting subject matter. I'd not heard about this before but from the look of the trailer this now sits quite highly on my 'could be really good' list.

Ryan Phillipe stars as a photographer during the apartheid in South Africa. His speciality? Death. Sounds very bleak but the trailer outlines what could be a really good storyline.

24 The Movie - Due 2012?

www.tips-fb.com
According to Jack Bauer himself, the 24 movie will hit cinemas in 2012. The trouble is, no-one else seems to be agreeing with him. D'oh!

And where did he decide to break this bombshell? On The View, an American equivalent to our very own evil Loose Women. Hot stuff indeed.

True Lies 2

www.tips-fb.com
Tom Arnold has been blowing his True Lies 2 trumpet again, hoping either James Cameron or Arnold Strong will hear and coming running to him with a new role.

Yes he's blagging about another script that has apparently surfaced and even goes as far as to say James Cameron has co-wrote it and Arnie really likes it.

The Hobbit Has Started Filming!

www.tips-fb.com
At last! Everyone breath a huge sigh of relief. It's been the most on and off project for god knows how long but the cameras on The Hobbitt finally started rolling yesterday.

Peter Jackson has returned to Middle Earth and all is good in the world. Like Morgan Freeman's deep, warm voice this story makes me feel happy and safe.

The Dark Knight Rises Casting Leak (Update)

www.tips-fb.com
News has been officially announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight Rises. No real surprise there, its been rumoured for a while, but .......

The much more interesting news is that he'll play Alberto Falcone. Yup he's going to play the son of Carmine Falone (Tom Wilkinson) who appeared in Batman Begins.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Pirates Of The Caribbean. It's not so much that I dislike the franchise, it's just that I think it became far too bloated and convoluted.Killed by it's own success you might say.

So how have they tried to breath fresh and new life into proceedings? Unfortunately, judging by this latest trailer, it looks like they haven't done anything and decided to stick with what's gone before them. Now that's a shame.

The World's Greatest Extra

www.tips-fb.com
I like this. Someone, with a lot of time on their hands, has spotted the same extra in a whole load of film and TV programs and posted a montage of the guy online. Genius.

He's appeared in some decent stuff (The Social Network, Spider Man) and some not so great stuff (The O.C. Blurghhh) but it's nice to get one of the little guys a bit of the spotlight.

Darren Aronofsky Is Not Directing The Wolverine

www.tips-fb.com
Hugh Jackman will have to find another director for his new Wolverine movie as news has broken that Darren Aronofsky has left the production. Dang.

I haven't see the first Wolverine movie but I have heard it was pretty rubbish. Aronofsky however brought some credibility to the thing but now he's left its going to be an uphill struggle to get someone on par.

Pegg And Frost Do Star Wars

www.tips-fb.com
Kudos to The Movie Blog for pointing this out because it's hilarious. Yup Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have recreated a scene from Star Wars. Something this simple has to be brilliant, and it is.

There's really nothing much more to say on the subject as the beauty is in the clip itself, my only wish is that they had completed the whole trilogy. Ah well.

A New Dark Tower Novel?

www.tips-fb.com
This isn't strictly movie news but it does tie in with the Ron Howard project that is currently in pre-production and I know there are regular readers of the blog that have a lot of interest in Dark Tower news.

So here is said news, it seems that Stephen King has finished a new Dark Tower novel entitled The Wind Through the Keyhole and will be published next year.

American Pie Sequel Secures Three Originals.

www.tips-fb.com
So if you ignore all the absolutely atrocious direct to DVD sequels of the American Pie franchise the film count stands at three. The first was a work of genius, the second was just as good, the third well that wasn't so good but at the very least it was enjoyable.

So, after a few years break, they are returning to the original Pie storyline to continue the adventures of everyone's favourite piefucker Jim. Yes Jason Biggs has signed on to return to his most iconic (if you can call it that) role.

The Bean And Mitchell Return To Silent Hill

www.tips-fb.com
As production continues to roll forward on the new Silent Hill movie news has sprung up stating that Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean will return in their original roles. Sweet!

Don't believe me? Well shame on you because we have proof in the form of a new picture released by the studio. Okay so it doesn't show The Bean but that's definitely Radha Mitchell there.

Larry Crowne Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Tom Hanks is an amazing actor. Fact. So I was excited when I found that a new trailer was online showcasing his fantastic comedic acting and directing talents in Larry Crowne. And the results? Well.

It all looks just a little too, how can I put this, well errmmm 'nice'. It's a tale of an everyman (Larry Crowne - Tom Hanks) losing his job due to having no education.

Review: I Saw The Devil (18) ★★★★★

www.tips-fb.com
Plot
When his pregnant wife becomes the latest victim of a serial killer, a secret agent blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge.

Review
It's taken me a little while to write the review for I Saw The Devil. The reason is not so much that I needed time to think about what I'd seen or how the characters and storyline worked, no.

TRON: The Next Day

www.tips-fb.com
I haven't seen the new Tron movie yet. There is a reason behind this, it's that I haven't seen the original for quite some years now. I remember not liking Tron, I'm not really sure why, but the last time I saw it, oh it must have been back when I was a teenager (But you don't look that old, why thank you, I like to work out and use Nivea daily), I just can't help but think that it wasn't that good at all.

Quarantine 2: Terminal Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
I like a good zombie, emphasis on good. What I don't like is a crap zombie movie. What I dislike even more is a crap sequel to the crap zombie movie. So with that in mind the trailer for Quarantine 2: Terminal is now online so I thought I'd share how utterly rubbish it looks.

The original Quarantine was a hollywood remake of the superb Spanish REC.

Conan The Barbarian Teaser Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Now that's what I call a deep voiced trailer voice over. Has the trailer voice over dude had major surgery to make him sound even more gravely? I ask these questions as the teaser trailer for Conan doesn't really show or tell us anything, so I thought I'd comment on the voice over guy.

Nope, I don't see the point of this release. It just seems to be a sword with a few moving pictures surrounded by smoke, its almost as if they want you to strain your eyes.

Full Length Super 8 Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Wow. Just .... wow. I love the look of this trailer, absolutely love it. I don't remember seeing anything like this since I was a kid.

I've been waiting to see something a lot more substantial that the teasers that are out there and the moment this was released I was on it like a tramp on chips.

Robocop Remake Has A Director & Writer

www.tips-fb.com
Worst. Idea. Ever. I'll officially put that out right now. Yes it looks like this is happening, Robocop is being remade and has got itself a director and a screenwriter.

José Padilha has signed on to direct with Josh Zetumer as screenwriter. Who? I hear you cry out, well errrmm Padilha directed Bus174 and Elite Squad, that's about it and Zetumer hasn't written anything. Good grief.

Smurf Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Oh dear. I knew this was going to bad but I had no idea just how bad it could be. The first trailer for the Smurfs new CGI outing has landed and, well, lets just say it doesn't look good.

The new Yogi Bear film hit new lows in live action meets CGI and was panned by more or less everyone who saw it. Yes that included the kids and the Smurfs could very well join Yogi in Movie Hell.

Lost Monsters Inc 2 & Toy Story 3 Concepts

www.tips-fb.com
It's a little known fact that Pixar and Disney almost went their separate ways. Now as Disney holds the rights to the characters and names they engaged a third party company to create two direct to DVD sequels for Monsters Inc and Toy Story.

However, once they patched up their differences the two projects were scraped but just recently concept art for the two sequels has surfaced.

BP Spill - The Movie?

www.tips-fb.com
Right, I gotta rush through this as its a busy day at work. It seems a movie is in the pipeline which will be based on the BP oil spill. No this won't be a documentary but a really real movie.

Cinemablend released the story and they had this to report

The Expendables 2

www.tips-fb.com
I've still not see The Expendables so I'm not in position to comment on whether or not a sequel would be a good or a bad thing. I have however seen that it made $275m so obviously a sequel is on its way.

The surprise however is that Stallone has decided not to direct this time. He's currently scouting out a new director to oversee the mayhem and will restrict himself to an acting role.

Marcia Lucas Made Star Wars Better?

www.tips-fb.com
Here's an interesting article that I think alot of Star Wars fans will find interesting. It would appear that many of A New Hope's major scenes were actually the brainchild of Lucas's ex-wife Marcia. It'd certainly explain the prequels.

Here's a few choice selections

She came up with the idea of killing Obi-Wan Kenobi. What!?! Lucas told the Rolling Stone:

Fast Five Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Does anyone actually watch these movies anymore? Seriously, I'm asking because they have appeared to reach the fifth in the franchise and I didn't even know three or four existed. Hang on there was one set in Tokyo right? Oh I don't know.

For those that are interested in generic plot and car chases you'll probably enjoy the embedded trailer below, for me though it looks like one of the most boring films ever made.

Review: Rubber (15) ★★

www.tips-fb.com
Plot
When Robert, an inanimate tire, discovers his destructive telepathic powers, he soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman becomes his obsession.

Review
You didn't ask for it but here it is anyway, the review for Rubber. I've blogged about this movie a couple of times and hinted that this could either be a film you hate or you love to bits. It's a bit of a surprise that, for me, its neither. To me its an opportunity missed. Let me explain why I think this is.

Rubber is a film about a killer tyre, a killer tyre with telepathic powers. That's your premise and that's what you get. To say it doesn't do what it says on the tin is wrong, it does exactly that, what it doesn't do though is surprise you, and that's the magic that's missing.

At the beginning of the film you have a unnamed sheriff talking to a gathered crowd about the movie they're going to see. He explains that in all major motion pictures from ET to The Pianist there is a element running through them of 'No Reason'. There's no reason for this, and there's no reason for that. Rubber is a homage to 'No Reason'. He then turns round, climbs into the boot of a car and is driven away. For no reason. The crowd then turn to watch the film which turns out to be the film that you the viewer are also watching.

So from the outset expectation is set, the events that will take place have no reason, they just happen. So why restrict yourself so much? The major downside to my experience of the movie was that it just wasn't that much fun. For such a ridiculous premise they should have had a riot with the film, pushed boundaries and gone completely bonkers but instead they opt for slow build up with the odd laugh out loud moment here and there.

There doesn't seem to be a reason why Robert (the tyre) kills animals or people, he (or she, who knows with tyres) just does. It seems to be anyone who crosses his path, sometimes literally, will have their heads exploded. The first time its fun, the fourth, fifth time, you start wanting something a little different.

For all the little twists, that again aren't really explained, and the very nice little ending, it just doesn't really work. Again hype may well have gotten in the way of a decent little underground, micro budget film, but I don't think this would have worked either way.

What appeared to be a fun little film, turned into a disappointing and dis-jointed effort that promised so much but failed to deliver.

Cars 2 Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
The new trailer for Pixars Cars 2 is finally online and although it looks fantastic (it's Pixar what did you expect!) it does look like its aimed more for the kids than the adults.

Now Cars is one of the weaker parts of Pixars catalogue, it didn't sit too well with audiences and critics weren't enthralled by it so why make a sequel? The obvious first thought is, redemption, make a much better sequel that redeems the original.

Silent Hill: Revelation - First Pic

www.tips-fb.com
Production is already under way on the new Silent Hill sequel and today we have our first pic. Now don't get excited, it's just star Adelaide Clemens pointing a gun at you, but its good to know the cameras are rolling.

I'm a big fan of the original Silent Hill, For my money its the best video game to movie representation there is so the sequel has alot to live up to.

Monday 7 March 2011

Kung Fu Panda 2 Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
I kinda liked Kung Fu Panda, I didn't think I would, but I did. That said I liked it back when I liked Jack Black and his brand of crazy humour however this is now wearing a little thin for me.

So the first full length trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2 is now online and to be fair it does look like this could be a fun trip too. Jack Black, is well, Jack Black again and there's some clever visual gags present so I can't see it being anything other than a good watch.

Arnolds Back

www.tips-fb.com
The man, the myth, the legend, the king of action films is back. No not Michael Dudikoff, Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to the silver screen and he's let loose a couple of projects he's been offered.

In total he's mulling over fifteen films, three of them remakes of ...... The Running Man (interesting), The Terminator (dear god please no) and Predator (what?!!?). He's also said that his interest is heightened over a potential comic book role, well he does need something to erase the memory of Mr Freeze I suppose.

Super Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Do you want to see the funniest movie trailer your most likely to see this year? You do? well step this way my fellow chuckle brother.

I love it when I come across a movie that I didn't know know anything about and it immediately captures my interest. Super is just this very thing, a strange hybrid of underground indie and a Will Ferrell summer blockbuster, a cheaper, uglier version of Kick Ass if you will.

Thursday 3 March 2011

Attack The Block Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
Empire have just released the first trailer for Joe Cornish's (The Adam and Joe Show) Attack The Block. Council estate kids vs aliens. Init.

First impressions? I'm not entirely sold on it. Firstly, the accents. Really? Do all kids now talk like dat now init? I'll need to try and look past this but it does annoys me. Secondly, the effects. I know this is a trailer but the effects on display here look awful.

Rubber Red Band Trailer

www.tips-fb.com
And in stark contrast to my previous post about Hollywood and its lack of originality comes Rubber, a little known movie from France.

I've blogged about this previously and really admire the balls of the filmaker to try something so risky. This could either fall flat on its face and be laughed out of cinemas (if it even gets that far) or become a mega sensation that takes over the world.
